DISAPPEARING WORLDS  & THE MAVIS HALL ART PRIZE

21 JUNE - 19 SEPTEMBER 2025

Open to artists over the age of 18 in any physical medium, professional or not - we are looking for pieces both 2d and 3d which highlight endangered habitats or species. From big cats to tiny tree frogs and the Arctic tundra to the Amazon rainforest, hyper-realism or abstract, this Summer exhibition is designed to bring flavours of the wider world to Malton.

Works must be professionally framed or mounted, all pictures should be fitted with D-rings approx a third of the way from the top of the piece. Maximum artwork size is 1 metre square/cubed, depending on composition.

All entries must be for sale. There is no participation fee, but a 40% commission is deducted from all sales. Payment for sales will be made within 7 days of the close of the show.

NO PHOTOGRAPHY  AI or DIGITAL ART!  Apologies, but the AI issue has created problems for curators, so we are unable to accept any work which may be digitally manipulated.

If you would like to be considered for participation, send a good quality photograph of your artwork, with a short description of the materials used along with the size in centimetres, h, w d  (images no larger than 1MB) to: alisonwytchwood@btinternet.com by 30th April 2025. Sucessful entrants will be notified within 14 days of the deadline. 

All accepted work  will be required to arrive at the Gallery no later than Saturday 14th June 2025. You are responsible for the insurance of your work during transit and while it is displayed in the Gallery.  

THE MAVIS HALL ART PRIZE

All art successfully entered into the Disappearing Worlds Exhibition will be eligible for consideration for the inaugural Mavis Hall Art Prize. This lump sum of £500 will be awarded to the artwork which garners the most number of physical votes cast by the visiting public for the duration of the exhibition. 

All votes will be stored in a locked ballot box which will be opened  at the end of the exhibition and the votes cast will be counted by an independent adjudicator. 

The decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The prize money will be transferred via BACS directly to the winner's bank account. 

Please note - images of the entered artworks, but especially the winning piece of art - will be used to promote the prize and the Gallery and entry implies acceptance of this. Copyright  will rest with the artist and no facsimiles of any piece of art will be offered for sale by the Gallery, the owners or employees of the Gallery or their agents. Only the original artwork will be offered for sale to Gallery visitors.

ANGELA COLE 

Award-winning modern basket maker


We are delighted to welcome Angela Cole to the Gallery for April and May. An award-winning modern basket designer-maker, she is rooted in heritage skills and the natural world. Angela is showing her Lichen Collection at the Gallery; functional, traditional stake and strand baskets with contrasting colours and intriguing woodland details.

Having gained her City and Guilds Diploma in Basketry, sheworks with woven willow and woodland materials, making distinctive, traditionalbaskets and garden plant supports.

 Using managed andwild materials, she combines heritage techniques with innovative design,focussing upon form, texture and colour. Angela is inspired by coppicedwoodlands, the harvest of traditional willow farms and wild materials. Sheloves the physical work of making.

 Integration withnature is an essential element of her creative process and the main focus ofexpression.

Angela's work uses UK grown materials and is completelysustainable, bringing connection to the natural world into everyday life.
