Welcome Studio Milena

24 September - 30 October

Our next exhibitor here at the Gallery is the lovely Helen Milen, weaver extrordinaire. She says:

"I am a handweaver and natural dyer living in North Yorkshire.  I worked as a Fashion Designer in London, where my passion for woven textiles inspired me to start weaving.  After returning to Yorkshire, I set up my weaving practice, Studio Milena.

My weaving is influenced by a fascination with architectural details, and I’m captivated by architecture’s relationship with its surrounding landscape.  Rural, urban, coastal.  The rhythm, light and colour of the changing seasons continually inspire me.

Environmentally considered textiles are at the heart of my weaving practice.

I choose to weave using only natural fibres including British wool.  My practice has evolved to now include naturally dyed yarns, which I hand-dye in my studio using plant-based materials.

Weaving offers me both a spontaneous and methodical approach to creating artistic textiles.  I love to entwine layers of texture and colour as I weave, capturing my inspiration through a tactile interplay of colour and geometric pattern. "

Helen's beautiful scarves, wallhangings, pictures and cards will be available to buy and are sure to be a popular choice of gift with Christmas just around the corner.
